Life is unpredictable. There’s no way around it. Knowing the One Room Challenge was coming up this Spring, I took to planning out my next room makeover starting back in February (it was not the girls bedroom). I was going to be so prepared! Fast forward to 3 weeks ago. Spring has arrived, the sun is out… it melts all the snow… and floods my basement. The same basement that holds my shared little girls room that I made over for the Fall ORC in 2017!
If you are unfamiliar with the One Room Challenge, Linda from the blog Calling it Home hosts a 6 week challenge twice a year to inspire a complete room makeover. There are 20 Featured Designers that are chosen to participate and hundreds of other guest bloggers that take on this challenge right along side them. It is a really fun time of year in the design and DIY world because you see hundreds of rooms completely transform from week to week. The accountability is key!
I could complain here, but in truth the damage could have been so much worse. Over 100 local houses were lost in the flooding, so we took it pretty calmly and counted our blessings. All the details for that are saved for a separate post, but the end result of this is that the girls room had to be torn apart and now of course put back together. I’m choosing lemonade in this scenario and while I loved the room I put together for them in 2017, there is a lot of things I wanted to change over the past year… both in design and function – but it probably would not have taken precedence over all of the other projects we have on the horizon.
With the damage, it’s giving me the opportunity to re-design this room knowing they will be in it for at least another 2 years. If you want to get caught up on their first room makeover where I converted it from an office to their bedroom, you can see the final reveal here.
I’ve been slowly getting the damage repaired over the last 3 weeks and here is what it looks like today!
There are so many exciting aspects of this room redo but I will save most of them for the posts moving forward over the next 6 weeks. I can tell you that the main goal is to have the space function better for the girls, including lots of upgraded storage! I am also installing the mural of my black and white dreams! There will be lots of fun DIY’s over the next 6 weeks so if you want all the details, make sure you are following along in my Instagram stories, where I share all the good stuff!
If you love a good room makeover as much as I do, make sure and follow along to see what the Featured Designers and the other Guest Participants are up to!
Let's create our dream homes together.
