Let me just say this mood board was so fun to create! A little back story if you are new here… A few weeks ago, we selected a winner for an exciting DIY DREAM TEAM bedroom makeover! Myself, Angela Rose Home, and Lindsay over at Frills & Drills had a dream to share our DIY passion to help one of our followers with a space of their own – and were so excited when Lowe’s Home Improvement agreed to partner with us!
This makeover will be completely free for Nicole (our winner) and will take place over a period of 3 days! While Nicole gave us a few indications of her personal style, she left the entire bedroom design in our hands… oh the fun and the pressure!
Here is our current mood board for Nicole’s bedroom makoever!
Did you know that Lowe’s carries everything you see here online? From building supplies to home decor, they are truly a full resource for home improvement and design. I cannot wait to see this bedroom come to life.
I usually always start a room design with 1 or 2 key design elements that are the hardest to find (or change if they are already in the space). For this room, we started with this beautiful transitional rug that has a mixture of beautiful colors to set the stage for a calming color palette. The next item we found was this modern upholstered bed frame. After these 2 main pieces of furniture were chosen, it was much easier to start adding accessories, colors, and accents.
The other thing that I think about when starting a room design is how I want it to feel! With Nicole, we wanted her bedroom to be a place of retreat… warm neutrals, functional decor items, and cozy textures.
We have a tight timeline for this renovation but we all agreed that this room wouldn’t feel complete without a few DIY’s. Our plan is to incorporate a board and batten wall treatment around the entire room similar to what I did in my guest bedroom below. We are excited to go dark and moody with the walls! We will grab a few sample colors of Valspar Signature Ultra before making a final decision but I’m really loving the idea of Slate Court.
We have a few other DIY projects planned and can’t wait to share all the details with you! Here is a current image of how Nicole’s bedroom looks now. In less than 2 weeks, this bedroom will be completely transformed and we can’t wait to give this amazing couple a peaceful bedroom that they can retreat to every night.

Hi would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using? I’m looking to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a tough time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S My apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!
