I grew up in the Texas Hill Country learning anything and everything about the trades from my dad... aka Grumpy. I left our tiny town after high school to pursue a career in the Air Force. You could say my passion for DIY started much earlier in those summers when I followed my dad around job sites. I was a 22-year-old lieutenant when I bought my first townhouse. I still remember the excitement of getting those keys. The very same day I ripped out all the carpet, borrowed a table saw and started installing laminate floors. I guess not much has changed in 20 years. I was so proud to create something with my own hands. Through all my years of DIY - that feeling never goes away. I created Making Pretty Spaces out of my love for DIY - but also a love for teaching. My goal is to pass on my experience and knowledge to anyone with a desire and willingness to learn. DIY isn't easy... but it sure is fun.
The Making Pretty Spaces Academy is here! I've had so many requests for a course and I'm so excited to share that it is almost here! From using beginner tools to choosing the perfect white paint - my goal is to teach you everything you need to create a home you love.
I have decades of DIY experience under my tool belt, and I can’t wait to share my best how-tos (and what-not-to-dos!) with you. From DIY & design - to working with a contractor, I’ll give you the blueprint you’ll need to do things right the first time. Ready to jump into your next project? Grab your power tools and let’s create something beautiful.
We turned a dysfunctional basement space into the perfect room to entertain or just lounge by the fire. It’s our favorite spot in the house right now!
This project was a labor of love! I spent 6 months creating this kitchen almost entirely with my own 2 hands. I used IKEA cabinets and painted custom doors. DIY concrete countertops, tiling, island legs... this entire kitchen was a dream to build!
Powder rooms are a great space to experiment your creativity. I went bold with the perfect shade of green on the walls and ceiling and added some vintage artwork to make it feel welcoming!
We painted our brick! I also made faux wood garage doors and limewashed our sidewalk! This transformation has been the most drastic and impactful for our home. Read all about the paint I chose, replacing gutters and finding the perfect exterior lights.
